Situated on the Costa del Azahar, Benicàssim is a place of great versatility. The town became known as the 'Biarritz of Valencia' in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, when wealthy families built splendid villas along Voramar beach. These villas, now known as the 'Route of the Villas', give the town a unique aristocratic flair. In contrast stands the town's modern significance as the host of the Benicàssim International Festival (FIB), one of Europe's premier indie and alternative rock festivals. Rising behind the town is the Desert de les Palmes Natural Park, a mountain range featuring the ruins of ancient monasteries and panoramic coastal views. The Vía Verde, a cycling and hiking path on a former railway line, connects Benicàssim to Oropesa del Mar directly along the cliffs.
