Jaslovské Bohunice Nuclear Power Plant (Slovakia)

Weather…

The Jaslovské Bohunice Nuclear Power Plant is a historically significant facility in western Slovakia and holds a special place in the region's energy history, as it was the site of the first nuclear installation in the former Czechoslovakia. The oldest part of the complex, the A1 reactor, was permanently shut down following an incident in the 1970s. Furthermore, as part of Slovakia's accession to the European Union in 2004, the country agreed to the progressive decommissioning of two older units (V1) to meet enhanced safety standards. Today, the operational core of the plant consists of the modernized V2 units, which continue to reliably and safely generate substantial amounts of baseload electricity for the Slovak grid. In addition to essential power generation, Jaslovské Bohunice plays a crucial role in providing district heating to the nearby city of Trnava and its surrounding areas, drastically reducing the reliance on fossil fuels for regional heating.
