- Bring a light jacket even in summer if you plan to walk along the Váh river canal, as it can get breezy.

Water temperature…
Bytča, picturesquely situated in the valley of the Váh River and at the foothills of the Súľov Mountains (Súľovské vrchy) and the Javorníky Mountains in northwestern Slovakia, is a city with some of the most fascinating Renaissance architecture in the country. The crown jewel of the city is undoubtedly Bytča Castle, a magnificent and exceptionally well-preserved Renaissance water castle built in the 16th century for the Hungarian Palatine Juraj Thurzo. Within the castle complex is the famous "Wedding Palace" (Sobášny palác), a unique architectural masterpiece built by Thurzo exclusively for the lavish weddings of his daughters, which today impresses with its rich sgraffito decorations. Bytča is also known as the place where the infamous Slovak "Robin Hood," Juraj Jánošík, served as a soldier before beginning his bandit life. The nearby Súľov Rocks (Súľovské skaly) also make the city an excellent gateway for hikers and climbers.
