Formed by the merger of three historical bathing sites, it is world-renowned for its volcanic post-activity features, specifically mofettas (dry CO2 baths). The most famous site is the Puturosu (Stinky) Cave, recognized as Europe's largest natural mofetta, frequently used to treat cardiovascular and muscular conditions. The resort is surrounded by vast pine and beech forests, offering numerous hiking trails. A popular hike leads to the 11th-century Balvanyos Castle ruins, providing a strategic view over the Transylvanian landscape. The air quality is exceptional, rich in negative ions, which aids in treating respiratory stress and exhaustion. Nearby, Lake Saint Anne, Eastern Europe's only intact volcanic crater lake, gives a unique natural spectacle for visitors.
