Hărman, historically known as Honigberg, is a prominent Saxon settlement in the Burzenland region, famous for its exceptionally well-preserved fortified church. Founded in the 13th century under the influence of the Cistercian Order, the village evolved into a strategic defensive point near the city of Brașov. The fortress features formidable 12-meter high walls and seven defense towers, designed to protect the local community from frequent Ottoman raids during the Middle Ages. Inside the fortified enclosure, visitors can see the original food storage rooms allocated to each family, showcasing the organized survival tactics of the Transylvanian Saxons. The church itself displays a blend of Romanesque and Gothic architectural styles, while the East Tower chapel contains remarkable 15th-century murals depicting the Last Judgment. Beyond its historical walls, Hărman is surrounded by a unique microclimate that supports rare Ice Age botanical relics in the nearby marshlands and the Lempeș Hill protected area.
