Three Chairs Basin (Hungary)

Weather…

The Three Chairs Basin, also known as the Târgu Secuiesc Basin, is located in the southeastern part of Transylvania in Romania and forms a prominent geographical unit within the Eastern Carpathians. It is bordered to the north by the Bodoc Mountains, to the east by the Nemira and Vrancea Mountains, and to the south by the Buzău Mountains. The basin landscape originated from tectonic subsidence and was shaped over time by the sedimentation of the Olt and Feketeügy (Black River) rivers. Climatically, the area is characterized by a moderate continental climate, with the basin location often leading to temperature inversions in winter. Historically and culturally, the basin is the heart of the Szeklerland, named after the three former administrative seats (chairs) that today form Covasna County. The region is famous for its numerous mineral water springs, locally referred to as 'Borvíz,' which reflect the volcanic past of the area. Economically, agriculture dominates, complemented by rising ecotourism in the surrounding mountain forests.
