Racławice Panorama (Poland)

Weather…

The Racławice Panorama in Wrocław is a monumental cycloramic painting depicting the 1794 Battle of Racławice during the Kościuszko Uprising. Created between 1893 and 1894 in Lviv by a team led by painters Jan Styka and Wojciech Kossak, the canvas measures an astounding 114 meters in length and 15 meters in height. It is housed in a purpose-built rotunda where a combination of clever perspective and physical terrain elements in the foreground creates a seamless 3D illusion. After World War II, the painting was transported to Wrocław but remained hidden for decades due to political sensitivities until its public reopening in 1985. The artwork serves as a powerful national symbol of the Polish struggle for independence and military valor. Visitors can enjoy a guided commentary that explains the historical context and the artistic techniques used. It remains one of the most visited and emotionally resonant cultural attractions in modern Poland.
