Oława is a historic town in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship of southwestern Poland, situated on the Oder and Oława rivers. The town has a rich history dating back to the Middle Ages and is particularly noted for its connection to the Sobieski family. The former castle, an impressive Renaissance-Baroque structure, was one of the residences of King John III Sobieski. Though much of the castle was destroyed in WWII, its surviving wing now serves as a municipal office building. The heart of the town is the Market Square (Rynek), dominated by the magnificent Baroque Town Hall with its unique astronomical clock tower. Visitors can also explore several historic churches, including the Gothic St. Blaise's Church. Its proximity to Wrocław makes it both an industrial hub and a commuter town with good transport links. Access is easy by train or car from Wrocław. The best time to visit is from spring to autumn when the weather is pleasant for enjoying the historic sights and riverside walks.
