💡 Tips
- Wear good hiking shoes: the nearby Opawskie Mountains (like Biskupia Kopa) offer excellent, sometimes rocky trails.
- The Czech border is extremely close. You can easily hike across it without noticing, so keep your ID handy just in case.
- Take time to stroll the market square (Rynek) to appreciate the well-preserved architecture and the historic town hall.
- Pay in Polish Złoty (PLN). Some border establishments might take Czech Koruna, but the exchange rate is rarely in your favor.
🍽 Food
Try these traditional potato dumplings with a signature hole in the middle, perfectly served with beef roulade and red cabbage in old town restaurants.
Thanks to the border location, local pubs offer a fantastic selection of both regional Polish craft beers and classic Czech drafts.
Treat yourself to a slice of classic Polish cheesecake at one of the small, cozy cafes surrounding the Rynek.
🛍 Shopping · 🧘 Quiet spots
Look out for the famous blue dotted Polish pottery in local craft and souvenir shops; they make wonderful gifts.
Pick up fresh seasonal fruits, local vegetables, and regional smoked meats at the town's open-air market.
A beautifully landscaped historic park filled with old trees and statues, excellent for a relaxed afternoon stroll.
The area surrounding the monastery and its adjacent forest provides a very quiet, contemplative atmosphere.
Take a very light hike up this forested hill on the town's edge for a peaceful nature retreat and pleasant views.

Prudnik, historically known as Neustadt in Oberschlesien, is a welcoming town in the Opole Voivodeship of southwestern Poland. The town is situated right on the border with the Czech Republic, at the edge of the Opawskie Mountains Landscape Park (Góry Opawskie), making it a handy base for hikers and nature lovers. The highest peak on the Polish side, Biskupia Kopa, has wide-open views over the region. Prudnik's old town bears witness to a rich history with preserved medieval walls, the Water Gate Tower, and a scenic market square (Rynek) with colorful townhouses. An important sight is the Franciscan monastery where Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński, the Primate of Poland, was interned during the communist era. The textile industry, particularly the Frotex company, shaped the town for many decades. For getting there, a car is recommended to flexibly explore the surrounding nature. The nearest major cities are Opole in Poland and Ostrava in the Czech Republic. The best time to visit is from spring to autumn when the weather is inviting for hiking and exploring the historical sites. Prudnik provides a unique blend of history, culture, and natural experience.
