Jeseník, formerly known as Freiwaldau, is tucked away in the heart of the Hrubý Jeseník Mountains in Czech Silesia. Founded in the 13th century, the town grew significantly due to iron ore mining and linen weaving. It gained global renown in the 19th century through Vincenz Prießnitz, the pioneer of modern hydrotherapy, who established the world's first cold-water cure institute here. The Prießnitz Spa remains a cornerstone of the town's identity and economy. Historical landmarks include the Water Fortress, which now serves as a regional museum. Today, Jeseník is a premier spa destination and a favorite spot for hikers and winter sports enthusiasts, situated in one of Central Europe's cleanest natural environments.
