Lidzbark Warminski Castle (Poland)

Weather…

The Castle of the Warmian Bishops in Lidzbark Warmiński is one of the most significant Gothic monuments in Poland, constructed between 1350 and 1401. Located at the confluence of the Symsarna and Łyna rivers, it served for centuries as the principal residence for the Bishops of Warmia. A major historical highlight is the residency of Nicolaus Copernicus between 1503 and 1510, during which he conducted scientific research within these walls. The square-plan fortress features a remarkable inner courtyard with two-story arcaded cloisters that remain almost entirely in their original state. The castle chapel was redesigned in the 18th century in the Rococo style, adding an elegant interior to the Gothic structure. Today, the building houses the Warmian Museum, showcasing extensive collections of regional history and sacred art. The fortification survived numerous conflicts and is now a protected national historic monument.
