Lidzbark Warmiński (Poland)

Weather…

Lidzbark Warmiński, known as the "Pearl of Warmia," is home to the monumental Castle of the Warmian Bishops. Built in the 14th century on a square plan, this red-brick fortress is a masterpiece of Gothic architecture, featuring exceptionally well-preserved two-story cloisters, the only ones of their kind in Poland. For centuries, it was a major cultural and political hub, hosting figures like Nicolaus Copernicus and the famed poet-bishop Ignacy Krasicki. The castle now serves as a museum, showcasing exquisite religious art, historical weaponry, and period interiors. The town is beautifully situated at the confluence of the Łyna and Symsarna rivers, offering scenic riverside walks. Beyond the fortress, visitors should see the High Gate and the late-Gothic Church of St. Peter and St. Paul. Located north of Olsztyn, it is a first-rate base for exploring the Warmian countryside. Summer is the peak season, with various cultural festivals and medieval reenactments taking place within the grand castle courtyard.
