Książ Castle (Poland)

Weather…

Książ Castle is the third largest castle in Poland, dramatically situated on a forested cliff overlooking the Pełcznica River valley. For centuries, it served as the seat of the powerful Hochberg family. The architecture is a grand blend of Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque styles, with the opulent Maximilian Hall standing as its most impressive room. The castle is also famous for its association with the legendary Princess Daisy. During World War II, the castle was seized by the Nazis and became part of the enigmatic "Project Riese." Massive tunnels and bunkers were excavated deep beneath the structure, the purpose of which remains a subject of intense historical debate. Today, visitors can tour both the lavish terraced gardens and the mysterious underground passages. Located near Wałbrzych, it is a year-round destination. The annual Flower and Art Festival in May is a particularly popular time to visit, when the halls are adorned with spectacular floral displays.
