Koronowo is a photogenic town in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, primarily known for the Koronowo Lagoon (Zalew Koronowski), a paradise for sailors, kayakers, and anglers. The town is situated on the Brda River, a popular kayaking route that winds through the lush Tuchola Forest. Koronowo's history is closely tied to the Cistercian Order, which founded a monastery here in the 13th century. The remains of the Gothic abbey, including the imposing Basilica of the Assumption, are the town's main historical landmarks. The town was also the site of the Battle of Koronowo in 1410, an important victory for Poland-Lithuania over the Teutonic Knights. Getting to Koronowo is best done via the nearby city of Bydgoszcz, which has good road and rail connections. From there, it's just a short drive. Culinarily, visitors should be sure to try the fresh fish caught from the lagoon, served in many local restaurants. The best time to visit is during the summer when the lake and surrounding nature come alive, and numerous events and festivals take place. Koronowo is the great destination for an active getaway, combining water sports, nature exploration, and a rich history.
