Chiclayo, known as the 'City of Friendship,' is located in the Lambayeque region of northern Peru. Although it was officially founded only in the 18th century, its surroundings were the site of major pre-Columbian cultures like the Moche and Lambayeque. In its immediate vicinity lies the Tomb of the Lord of Sipán, one of South America's most significant archaeological discoveries, now exhibited at the Tumbas Reales de Sipán Museum. Chiclayo is an important commercial hub connecting the coast with the Amazon rainforest and the mountains. The 'Witches' Market' (Mercado de las Brujas) is a unique cultural attraction where traditional healers offer shamanic tools and medicinal herbs. Geographically, the city is situated in a fertile coastal plain used through artificial irrigation for rice cultivation and the sugar industry. Chiclayo is also famous for its excellent gastronomy, particularly dishes like Arroz con Pato. Despite its modern character, the city preserves deep spiritual roots and is a center for the study of ancient Peruvian civilizations.
