Port of El Oro Province
The port of El Oro province, known as Puerto Bolívar, is one of Ecuador's key Pacific seaports. Located in the city of Machala, it serves as a central transshipment hub for bananas, coffee, cocoa, and seafood from the country's southern region. The port was built in the 1930s and has undergone several upgrades. It features multiple docks with a total length of over 800 meters and can accommodate vessels with a draft of up to 10 meters. Approximately 3 million tons of cargo are handled annually, with bananas constituting the largest share. The port is a major employer in the region and contributes significantly to El Oro's economy. It also serves as a node for international trade with Asia, Europe, and North America.
