Chachapoyas (Peru)

Weather…

Chachapoyas is a low-key spot in Peru's northern Andes. The city, known for its white houses and traditional balconies, serves as the base for exploring the legacy of the 'Cloud Warriors' (Chachapoyas culture). The main highlight is Kuélap, a monumental fortified city often called the 'Machu Picchu of the North.' Equally spectacular is Gocta waterfall, which drops in two tiers over 700 meters into the depths. The region is defined by dramatic mountain landscapes and lush cloud forests. Gastronomically, you should try 'cecina' (dried meat) and the excellent local coffee. Access is now possible via direct flights from Lima or long bus rides from Tarapoto or Chiclayo. The best time to visit is from May to October, when the skies are clearer and the hiking trails to ruins and waterfalls are more accessible.
