Bimmah Sinkhole (Oman)

Weather…

The Bimmah Sinkhole, known locally as Hawiyat Najm (Falling Star), is a spectacular water-filled depression located near the coast in the Muscat Governorate. Contrary to local legend that it was formed by a meteorite, it is a natural karst formation, created by the collapse of an underground limestone cavern due to water erosion. The result is a striking hole approximately 40 meters in diameter and 20 meters deep, filled with turquoise-colored brackish water, which is a mix of fresh water from the mountains and sea water from the nearby Gulf of Oman. The clear water allows visitors to see the fish swimming within. A concrete staircase has been constructed to provide easy access for swimming. The site is surrounded by a small park with seating and restroom facilities, making it a popular spot for picnics and swimming for both locals and tourists.
