Al Mirani Fort (Oman)

Weather…

Al Mirani Fort, strategically located at the western end of Muscat's harbor, was built along with Al Jalali Fort by the Portuguese in the 16th century to consolidate their control over the coast. It was erected on the ruins of an older structure and was originally named Forte do Almirante (Fort of the Admiral). The fort played a crucial role in the Omani reconquest of Muscat in 1649, when Omani forces captured the fort, leading to the final fall of Portuguese rule. In the following centuries, it was used and maintained by the ruling imams and sultans. Compared to Al Jalali, Al Mirani is smaller but equally strategic. It is not open to the public and remains an important symbol of Omani resistance and national sovereignty.
