Tysvær is a municipality in Rogaland county, defined by its highly fragmented fjord landscape and numerous peninsulas. The administrative centre, Aksdal, serves as a key transport hub at the intersection of the E39 and E134 European highways, linking the region to Haugesund and Stavanger. A major economic driver is the Kårstø gas terminal, one of Europe's largest processing plants, which is crucial for exporting Norwegian natural gas to the European market. Historically, Tysvær is famous as the birthplace of the landscape painter Lars Hertervig, whose work was deeply influenced by the unique local light and nature. The municipality contains several historic buildings, such as the Tysvær Church dating back to 1852. While industry is dominant, agriculture and forestry still play a role in the local economy. The area provides extensive outdoor recreation opportunities along the shores of the Skjoldafjord and Førresfjord.
