Sveio is a municipality in Vestland county, Norway, located in the southern part of the traditional district of Sunnhordland. Its administrative center is the village of Sveio, positioned on a strategic peninsula between the Hardangerfjord and the North Sea. Historically, the municipality was established in 1865 after separating from Finnås, and today it covers an area of approximately 246 square kilometers. The landscape is characterized by a rugged coastline, numerous inland lakes, and vast heathlands, with the Ryvarden Lighthouse, built in 1849, serving as a major cultural landmark. Sveio is also recognized as the home of the composer Fartein Valen, whose legacy is preserved at the cultural center in Valevåg. The local economy is currently based on agriculture, fish farming, and service industries, benefiting from its close links to the nearby cities of Haugesund and Stord. The opening of the Triangle Link (Trekantsambandet) in 2001, which includes bridges and subsea tunnels, has significantly enhanced regional connectivity and economic activity.
