Kopervik is the administrative center of Karmøy municipality and the largest town on the island of Karmøy in Rogaland. The town is located along the Karmsund, a strategically vital waterway that has been of great importance for shipping since the Middle Ages. Kopervik was granted status as a market town (ladested) in 1866, which facilitated rapid economic growth driven by fishing and commerce. The townscape features a blend of modern architecture and historical buildings reflecting its maritime heritage. A prominent landmark is the Kopervik Church, which was replaced by a modern structure following a devastating fire in 2010. The local economy now relies on services, public administration, and maritime industries, including shipyards and suppliers for the North Sea oil sector. Through the Karmsund Tunnel, the town is directly connected to the mainland and the city of Haugesund.
