The Monument of Freedom in Kočani is a unique architectural and sculptural ensemble honoring the Macedonian people's struggle for liberty and independence. It was completed in 1981 to commemorate the anti-fascist resistance during World War II. Designed by the famous Macedonian artist Gligor Čemerski, the monument is distinguished by its extensive mosaic walls. These mosaics cover an area of approximately 335 square meters and depict scenes from Macedonian history, from the Bogomils and the Ilinden uprisings to the victory over fascism. The structure consists of several open concrete forms organically integrated into the landscape, offering a view over the town of Kočani. It is regarded as one of the most significant works of modern monumental art in Southeastern Europe. Today, the site serves as a cultural gathering spot and a venue for concerts and commemorative ceremonies.
