Weather…

Bargala was a significant Late Antique city whose ruins are located about 12 kilometers east of Štip at the foot of the Plačkovica Mountains. The city was established in the 4th century AD as a fortified Roman military camp and administrative center. Its name is first mentioned in historical sources in 371 AD. Bargala evolved into a major religious hub and an episcopal seat, evidenced by the impressive remains of a large episcopal basilica featuring magnificent mosaic floors and marble capitals. Massive defensive walls with seven towers enclose an area of approximately five hectares. Despite its strategic importance, the city was destroyed in the late 6th century by Avar and Slavic raids and subsequently abandoned. Archaeological excavations have also uncovered residential quarters, bath complexes, and workshops, providing a detailed picture of urban life during the transition from Antiquity to the Middle Ages.
