Gazi Baba Forest Park (North Macedonia)

Weather…

Gazi Baba Forest Park covers an area of approximately 100 hectares in the northeastern part of Skopje and serves as one of the most important green lungs of the North Macedonian capital. The area is named after the 16th-century Ottoman poet and mystic Asik Celebi, known as Gazi Baba, who was buried here. The current park landscape was established in the second half of the 20th century through planned afforestation efforts aimed at improving the city air quality and preventing soil erosion. The terrain is characterized by a mix of deciduous and coniferous forests, with oak and pine trees being the dominant species. For the urban population, the park acts as a significant recreational zone with numerous hiking trails and viewpoints overlooking the city center. Besides its ecological function, the area also houses faculties of the University of Skopje, highlighting the integration of natural space and educational infrastructure.
