The town was once a significant political center, serving as the seat of a local ruler within the Sultanate of Damagaram during the 19th century. Geographically, the region is renowned for its artesian wells and fertile valleys, which allow for the cultivation of vegetables, dates, and fruits even during dry seasons. Today, the local economy is characterized by this specialized irrigation agriculture and animated market activities, making Mirriah a crucial supply hub for Zinder. Architecturally, traces of traditional Hausa construction can still be found in the town, reflecting the long history of the area. Mirriah also serves as an important transportation node on Route Nationale 1, the country's primary east-west artery.
