Bhaktapur Durbar Square (Nepal)

Weather…

Bhaktapur Durbar Square, located in the 'City of Devotees,' is a monumental complex renowned for its medieval atmosphere and exceptional craftsmanship. The square served as the cultural and political hub of the Bhaktapur Kingdom, housing some of the Malla dynasty's finest artworks. A central landmark is the Palace of 55 Windows, commissioned in the 15th century by King Yaksha Malla and completed in the 17th century by King Bhupatindra Malla. Adjacent to it stands the Golden Gate (Lu Dhwakha), regarded as one of the most beautiful pieces of art in the world, marking the entrance to the Taleju Temple courtyard. Bhaktapur is also famous for its pottery and the preservation of traditional lifestyles, which gives the square a spirited historical character. The absence of motorized traffic in large parts of the old town enhances the feeling of traveling back in time. Despite damage from past earthquakes, the architectural integrity of the ensemble remains largely intact.
