Sveti Stefan Island (Montenegro)

Weather…

Sveti Stefan is a small island on Montenegro's Adriatic coast, connected to the mainland by a narrow tombolo. Originally founded in the 15th century as a fortified fishing village, it served the Paštrovići clan as protection against pirates and Ottoman incursions. During its peak, about 400 people lived here, and there were three churches within the walls. In the 1950s, the Yugoslav government converted the entire island into a luxury hotel resort, while strictly preserving the historical exterior of the stone houses. Famous guests from around the world, including Hollywood stars and politicians, have visited the site since then. Despite its commercial use, the architecture with its red-tiled roofs and narrow alleys remains a prime example of medieval Mediterranean construction. The island is now one of the most exclusive destinations on the Budva Riviera.
