Hustai National Park, also known as Khustain Nuruu, is located approximately 100 kilometers west of Ulaanbaatar in the Töv Province. Established in 1993, the park's primary mission is the reintroduction of the Przewalski's horse, known locally as Takhi, which was once extinct in the wild. The protected area covers about 50,600 hectares of diverse landscapes, including mountain steppe, forest steppe, and river wetlands along the Tuul River. Beyond the wild horses, the park provides a habitat for 45 species of mammals, such as red deer, Mongolian gazelles, and marmots, as well as over 200 bird species. Managed by the Hustai National Park Trust NGO, it serves as a prominent example of successful wildlife conservation and environmental education in Mongolia. The park's ecosystem remains largely intact, offering a unique opportunity to witness the recovery of a species and the preservation of central Mongolian biodiversity.
