Northern Moldavian Plateau (Moldova)

Weather…

The Northern Moldavian Plateau is an extensive geomorphological unit in northern Moldova, forming a transition between the Podolian Plateau and the Moldavian Plain. The relief is characterized by a gently undulating hilly landscape with average elevations ranging from 200 to 250 meters. The plateau is traversed by numerous river valleys, including those of the Prut and Dniester tributaries, which have carved deep incisions into the terrain. Geologically, the Precambrian crystalline basement is covered by thick layers of Cretaceous and Neogene sediments, as well as loess. The region is known for its extremely fertile chernozem soils, making it one of the most important agricultural areas in the country. In addition to cropland, the landscape is marked by steppe vegetation and scattered oak forests. Historically, the plateau's fertile land and open landscape attracted early cultures, as evidenced by numerous kurgan burial mounds across the region.
