The ancient fortress of Stolniceni is one of the most significant archaeological sites of the Geto-Dacian culture in modern-day Moldova. Located in the Hîncești district, this fortification dates back to the 4th-3rd centuries BC, a period characterized by intense cultural development and the rise of military architecture in the region. Strategically positioned on a high promontory on the right bank of the Cogâlnic River, the fortress utilized natural defenses supplemented by complex earthwork ramparts and deep ditches. Excavations have revealed remains of dwellings, storage pits, and pottery kilns, providing deep insights into the daily life, trade, and craftsmanship of the Geto-Dacian tribes. Notably, the discovery of Greek amphorae at the site indicates extensive commercial links with the Black Sea colonies, highlighting the region's integration into broader ancient trade networks.
