Hâncu Monastery (Moldova)

Weather…

Hâncu Monastery was founded in 1678 by the Moldovan boyar Mihalcea Hâncu at the request of his daughter, who sought a life of seclusion. Located in the Nisporeni district within the dense Codru forests, it sits about 55 kilometers west of Chisinau. The complex features two significant churches: the 19th-century Saint Parascheva Cathedral, built in a Neo-Byzantine style, and the winter church of the Assumption of the Virgin. During the Soviet period, the monastery was closed and repurposed as a sanatorium before reopening in 1992. Today, it is one of Moldova's most active and meticulously maintained convents, renowned for its spirited flower gardens and nearby holy springs believed to have healing properties. The striking white walls and red roofs of the cathedral provide a beautiful contrast against the lush green forest backdrop. It is a major spiritual center and a popular destination for those seeking tranquility and religious heritage.
