Ciuflea Monastery (Moldova)

Weather…

Ciuflea Monastery, officially the Monastery of Saint Theodore Tyron, is a major spiritual and architectural landmark in Chisinau. It was founded in 1858 as a cathedral by the brothers Teodor and Anastasie Ciufli, wealthy merchants of Macedonian origin who were renowned for their philanthropy. The church is easily recognized by its striking blue facade and golden onion domes, reflecting a classic Russian Orthodox architectural influence. During the Soviet era, when many religious sites were closed, Ciuflea remained active and served as the city's primary Orthodox cathedral after 1962. In 2002, the site was officially granted the status of a nunnery. The interior is richly decorated with a magnificent iconostasis and houses sacred relics, including parts of the remains of Saint Theodore Tyron. Today, the monastery serves as a peaceful haven in the bustling capital, attracting both devout pilgrims and tourists who come to admire its artistic beauty and serene atmosphere.
