💡 Tips
- If traveling to Gozo, aim to arrive at the ferry terminal at least 30 minutes before your desired departure time, especially on weekends.
- The area is highly exposed to the wind; check weather conditions before planning a dive at the local sites like the Rozi wreck.
- Parking near the terminal can be difficult in peak season; consider using public transport, as many bus routes end right at Cirkewwa.
- Walk around the headland near the diving points to get great photos of the ferry arriving against the backdrop of Comino.
🍽 Food
If you're in a rush, grab a quick sandwich or a coffee from the small cafeteria inside the ferry terminal building.
Once aboard the Gozo Channel ferry, the onboard cafeteria serves surprisingly decent tuna ftiras and hot drinks.
For a proper meal, take a short bus ride back to Mellieha where you can find excellent restaurants serving fresh seafood and Mediterranean dishes.
🛍 Shopping · 🧘 Quiet spots
The small shop inside the ferry terminal is your last stop to grab sunscreen, water, or magazines before heading to Gozo.
Look out for the dive centers near the terminal if you need to buy or rent last-minute snorkeling or diving gear.
A small, quiet inlet near the dive sites on the northern point, great for sitting away from the busy ferry queues.
Walk south along the coast from the terminal for about 20 minutes to reach Paradise Bay, enjoying the serene views over the strait.
Water temperature…
Cirkewwa is the northernmost point of mainland Malta and serves as the vital transport hub for the sister islands of Gozo and Comino. It hosts the main ferry terminal, with large car ferries departing frequently for Mġarr Harbour in Gozo. It is also the departure point for small boat taxis and excursions to the famous Blue Lagoon in Comino. Beyond its logistical role, Cirkewwa is a premier location for scuba diving in the Mediterranean. The seabed here features several notable shipwrecks, including the MV Rozi tugboat and the P29 patrol boat, both sunk as artificial reefs. Divers are also drawn to 'The Arch', a spectacular natural rock formation underwater. The surrounding Marfa Ridge gives rugged coastal trails with panoramic views across the South Comino Channel. Several hotels and beach clubs are located nearby, making it a convenient base for exploring the north of the archipelago.
