Fomm ir-Riħ Bay (Malta)

Weather…

Fomm ir-Riħ Bay is one of the wildest and most remote coastal areas in Malta, situated on the western coast near the village of Baħrija. Its name translates to 'Mouth of the Wind' in Maltese, a testament to its exposed position and the frequent strong winds that hit the cliffs. The bay is framed by massive limestone cliffs and features a pebble beach that is only accessible via a steep and challenging cliff-side path. Geologically, the site is significant because it clearly displays a major fault line that has brought different rock layers into direct vertical alignment. The waters are exceptionally clear, offering superb snorkeling opportunities when the sea is calm. Due to its difficult accessibility, the bay remains uncrowded even during peak summer months, retaining a raw and pristine atmosphere. On the plateau overlooking the bay, remains of prehistoric megalithic structures point to the ancient human presence in this rugged coastal region.
