San Blas Bay (Malta)

Weather…

San Blas Bay is located on the northeast coast of the island of Gozo and is renowned for its characteristic reddish sand, caused by the high iron content in the rock. Access to the bay is challenging due to an extremely steep road that is closed to private vehicle traffic, making the location a quiet retreat. Geographically, the bay is surrounded by terraced fields and lush vegetation typical of the fertile surroundings of Nadur. Historically, this coastal section often served as an observation point to detect pirate attacks early, which is why historical defense structures are found nearby. Today, San Blas is a popular destination for swimmers and snorkelers who appreciate the clear, turquoise water and pristine nature. The surroundings are characterized by limestone cliffs that provide natural protection against strong winds. Despite its small size compared to Ramla Bay, San Blas gives a more intimate atmosphere and a unique geological composition.
