Ta' Kenuna Tower (Malta)

Weather…

Ta' Kenuna Tower is a historical semaphore tower built in 1848 during British rule on Kenuna Hill in Nadur, Gozo. It was part of an optical communication system that transmitted messages between Gozo, Comino, and Malta using movable signal arms. The tower is situated at an altitude of 148 meters above sea level and features one of the best panoramic views across the Gozo Channel and the neighboring islands. After years of decay, the tower was extensively restored in 2005 and now serves as an important base for telecommunications, including air traffic control. The architecture is functional and robust, typical of mid-19th-century British military buildings. A botanical garden has been established around the tower, housing a variety of native Maltese plant species and serving as a green oasis. The site is not only a monument to the history of communication but also a cultural meeting point for visitors who wish to enjoy the tranquility and view.
