Siweschlëff (Luxembourg)

Weather…

The Siweschlëff, also known as the 'Seven Cliffs' or 'Seven Crevices,' is a striking rock formation of Luxembourg sandstone located near Berdorf in the Müllerthal region. These spectacular rock fissures were formed through geological erosion processes, where large blocks of stone detached from the plateau, creating deep labyrinths. The gorges are sometimes so narrow that one can barely squeeze through, reaching heights of up to 30 meters. The site is a highlight of the Müllerthal Trail and gives adventurers and hikers a unique nature experience. Viewpoints atop the rocks provide expansive vistas over the Black Ernz valley. The Siweschlëff is also a popular destination for rock climbers, as the sandstone walls offer convenient conditions for various difficulty levels. The vegetation within the damp, shaded crevices often consists of rare mosses and ferns that thrive in this microclimate. Historically, such rock formations often served as refuges for the local population during times of crisis.

Visiting
These fascinating rock formations are freely accessible in nature as part of the hiking network and can be thoroughly explored. The narrow, gorge-like passages offer hikers a truly adventurous and nature-oriented experience.
🕒
Typical hours
The natural landscape is open around the clock, however, for safety reasons, hiking is strictly recommended only during daylight. After heavy rainfalls, the rocks can be slippery, which is why extra caution is advised.
📷
Photography
The dramatic, moss-covered rock crevices and the dense canopy create an almost mystical atmosphere in landscape photographs. A wide-angle lens is particularly useful for capturing the vast dimensions of the rocky gorges.
⏱️
Time needed
Depending on the chosen hiking route, you should allow one to two hours to traverse the formations and take short breaks. Those exploring the entire Müllerthal region can easily spend a full and active day in this natural area.
Combine with
The rocks are ideally situated to connect with other spectacular trails in the Müllerthal or the scenic village of Berdorf. The famous Schiessentümpel bridge is also a highly rewarding addition to your nature excursion.
🧭
Getting there
The starting points of the hiking trails are easily accessible by car or regional buses, usually with designated hiker parking lots. Sturdy footwear is an absolute must for the sometimes uneven and stair-heavy paths between rocks.
💡
Insider tip
Bring enough water and perhaps a small snack, as there are absolutely no catering facilities directly in the narrow gorge. On hot summer days, the rock crevices provide a wonderful and very refreshing natural cooling effect.
