Hirschbierg Nature Reserve (Luxembourg)

Weather…

The Hirschbierg nature reserve is located in northeastern Luxembourg near Diekirch and is known for its impressive sandstone formations and steep forested slopes. Spanning approximately 40 hectares, the area features a mosaic of cool ravine forests and sunny rock plateaus, which fosters high biological diversity. The geological structure of Luxembourg Sandstone enables the growth of rare ferns and mosses that find good conditions in the damp rock crevices. Historically, Hirschbierg was used for forestry, but today the focus is on process protection to encourage its development into a primeval forest of the future. Hiking trails lead past spectacular viewpoints offering expansive vistas over the Sauer valley. The reserve is also an important habitat for the wildcat and various bat species that find shelter in the rock caves.
