Būtingė Oil Terminal (Lithuania)

Weather…

The Būtingė Oil Terminal on the Baltic Sea coast near the Latvian border is Lithuania's most vital energy infrastructure for crude oil imports. Commissioned in 1999, the terminal is operated by Orlen Lietuva and is directly connected to the refinery in Mažeikiai via a 90-kilometer pipeline. Since Lithuania lacks significant domestic oil reserves, Būtingė ensures national energy security and independence from pipeline supplies from the East. The facility consists of a Single Point Mooring (SPM) buoy anchored about 7 kilometers offshore, which allows for the unloading of giant tankers even in challenging weather conditions. Economically, the terminal is a strategic asset that makes Lithuania a key player in the regional energy market. Strict environmental regulations and state-of-the-art monitoring systems ensure the protection of sensitive Baltic Sea ecosystems during transfer operations.
