Stende Manor (Latvia)

Weather…

Stende Manor (Stendes muiža) is a historical estate in the Talsi district, with origins dating back to the time of the Livonian Order. The current manor house was built between 1820 and 1848 in the Late Classicism style for the von Bruiningk family and is part of an extensive complex. In addition to the main building, the ensemble includes the 'Old Castle' from the 16th century, outbuildings, and a historical church. Since 1923, the manor has housed the Stende State Cereal Breeding Institute, which has contributed to the continuous use and maintenance of the grounds. The surrounding landscape park is known for its centuries-old oaks and lime trees, creating a peaceful atmosphere. The architecture of the manor house is notable for its clear lines and harmonic integration into the Courland landscape. Today, Stende is not only a center for agricultural research but also a monument to the development of rural noble culture in Latvia. It reflects the transition from a feudal residence to a modern scientific facility.
