Established in 1984, it is one of the few national parks in Kenya where visitors are permitted to hike or cycle freely, as there are no dangerous large predators. A standout feature is Fischer's Tower, a 25-meter high volcanic column that is a popular challenge for rock climbers. The area is geologically active and houses the Olkaria Geothermal Station, which harnesses natural steam from the earth to generate clean electricity. The park's rugged gorges were carved by prehistoric volcanic activity, offering a unique glimpse into the tectonic history of the Great Rift Valley. Wildlife in the park includes Maasai giraffes, zebras, elands, and the rare bearded vultures which nest in the high cliff faces.
