Monte Tasso Nature Reserve (Italy)

Weather…

The Monte di Tasso - Pagano State Nature Reserve is located in the Molise region, within the municipality of Vastogirardi. Established in 1977, it is an integral part of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve "Collemeluccio-Montedimezzo Alto Molise." The reserve covers approximately 465 hectares and sits at an average altitude of 1,200 meters in the Central Apennines. The landscape is dominated by dense, pristine forests where European beech and silver fir are the primary species. These forest ecosystems hold significant scientific value as they represent rare remnants of post-glacial vegetation in the Italian peninsula. The region's wildlife includes the Italian wolf, wild boar, roe deer, and the rare black woodpecker. The reserve's primary mission is the protection of biodiversity and the scientific study of natural ecological processes in mountain woodlands. Thanks to its remote location, the area has maintained an exceptional level of ecological purity, serving as a hub for forestry research and environmental education.
