The Al-Faw Grand Port is a massive infrastructure project located at the southern tip of the Al-Faw Peninsula in Iraq, aimed at becoming one of the largest logistics hubs in the world. Construction officially began in 2010 under the supervision of the General Company for Ports of Iraq, in partnership with international contractors such as Daewoo E&C. The project is the cornerstone of the Development Road project, which seeks to connect the Persian Gulf directly to Turkey and Europe via high-speed rail and road networks. The port will feature one of the world's longest breakwaters and is designed to handle millions of containers annually upon completion. Due to its strategic geographical location, the port is expected to significantly reduce transit times between Asia and Europe compared to the Suez Canal route. The master plan includes container terminals, dry docks, industrial zones, and a modern residential city for employees. Despite financial and political challenges, Al-Faw remains Iraq's most critical strategic economic initiative for the 21st century.
