Khor Al Zubair Port (Iraq)

Weather…

Khor Al Zubair Port is a major industrial port in southern Iraq, located approximately 40 kilometers southwest of Basra. Established in 1974, it is connected to the Persian Gulf via the Khor Al Zubair channel. Unlike the general cargo Port of Umm Qasr, Khor Al Zubair is primarily specialized in the export of industrial goods and the import of raw materials for Iraq's heavy industry. The port serves as the main gateway for the shipment of fertilizers, petrochemical products, iron ore, and sulfur. Large industrial complexes, including petrochemical plants and iron and steel works, are located in the immediate vicinity and are tightly integrated into the port's logistics. In recent years, extensive rehabilitation efforts have been undertaken to deepen the berths and install modern loading cranes. This modernization enables the port to play a key role in diversifying Iraq's economy beyond crude oil exports. Additionally, the port features dedicated terminals for the export of refined petroleum products and liquefied petroleum gas.
