Basra Family Park (Iraq)

Weather…

Basra Family Park is a municipal leisure facility situated in the western part of the southern Iraqi port city of Basra. The park was opened in 2011 following a comprehensive urban rehabilitation initiative aimed at addressing the lack of safe recreational spaces in the province. The complex covers 25,000 square meters and features continuously irrigated lawns, as well as 300 planted date palms that provide essential shade. For children, three separate play areas with rubberized safety flooring and modern climbing structures have been installed. A central highlight of the facility is the fountain complex, which is illuminated by 50 LED spotlights during the evening. Due to extreme daytime temperatures in summer, which frequently exceed 50 degrees Celsius, the park is primarily active late in the evening. Management is handled by the Basra city government, which installed solar panels in 2018 to autonomously power the evening lighting.
