Nayband National Park, located in Bushehr province, is one of the most prominent marine protected areas in the Persian Gulf and also the very first protected marine national park of Iran. Established in 2007, the reserve features an extent of nearly 42,000 hectares and protects a unique combination of coastal landscapes, coral reefs, seagrass meadows, and extensive mangrove forests. The calm, shallow waters of Nayband Bay provide a vital and safe nesting site for critically endangered sea turtles, particularly the hawksbill sea turtle. The area is also a paradise for birdwatchers, as countless endemic species and migratory birds winter here. On the terrestrial part of the park, rugged, rocky cliffs rise, forming a dramatic contrast with the blue water of the bay.

Getting there
The national park is best reached by car or hired taxi from the nearby city of Asaluyeh, which connects to major Iranian coastal highways. Local boats can typically be chartered from adjacent fishing villages to explore the marine areas and mangroves.
Best season
The handy time to visit is during the cooler months from November to March, avoiding the extreme summer heat of the Persian Gulf region. Spring is also particularly good for observing marine life and migratory birds in the mangrove ecosystems.

The terrain varies from flat, sandy beaches and muddy mangrove swamps to rocky coastal cliffs overlooking the marine sanctuary. Walking is generally easy along the shorelines, but exploring the dense mangrove networks requires traveling by small boat.
