Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant (Iran)

Weather…

The Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant, located on the Persian Gulf coast, is the first facility of its kind in Iran and the entire Middle East. The project has a turbulent history: construction began in 1975 with the involvement of the German company Kraftwerk Union (Siemens), but was halted after the 1979 Islamic Revolution and during the Iran-Iraq War. It was not until 1995 that Iran signed an agreement with Russia to complete the plant. The facility utilizes a Russian VVER-1000 pressurized water reactor and was first connected to the national power grid in 2011. With a net capacity of 1,000 megawatts, it makes a substantial contribution to meeting the country's energy needs and diversifying the energy mix away from fossil fuels. The plant is under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and is considered a prestige project of Iranian technological development. In addition to power generation, there are plans to use waste heat for seawater desalination plants to alleviate water scarcity in the Bushehr region.
