Vank Cathedral (Iran)

Weather…

Vank Cathedral, also known as the Holy Savior Cathedral, is the spiritual centerpiece of the Armenian district of Jolfa in Isfahan. It was established between 1606 and 1655 by Armenian refugees who fled the Ottoman Empire and were resettled by Shah Abbas I. The cathedral's architecture is a remarkable blend of Christian Armenian elements and Persian Islamic Safavid styles, most notably reflected in its large dome which resembles those of local mosques. The interior is entirely covered in magnificent frescoes depicting biblical stories from both the Old and New Testaments, as well as the historical suffering of Armenian martyrs. An adjacent museum houses invaluable artifacts, including one of the first printing presses in the Middle East and a single strand of hair engraved with a biblical verse. The bell tower and the courtyard, which contains the graves of prominent Armenians, complete the religious complex. The cathedral stands as a living symbol of religious tolerance and cultural diversity in historic Isfahan.
