Ali Qapu Palace is situated on the western side of Naqsh-e Jahan Square in Isfahan and served as the imperial residence for Safavid monarchs during the 17th century. Its name literally means 'High Gate,' reflecting its role as the monumental entrance to the royal garden complex beyond. The structure rises across six floors and reaches a total height of 48 meters. Particularly impressive is the large elevated terrace (Talar) supported by 18 wooden columns, from which the Shah would observe polo matches and public festivities held in the square below. A unique feature is the 'Music Room' on the top floor, where the walls and ceilings are intricately carved with deep niches in the shapes of vessels and instruments to create well-suited acoustics. The interior walls are adorned with delicate murals by Reza Abbasi, depicting floral motifs and courtly scenes. The palace was expanded in several phases under Shah Abbas I and his successors. It remains one of the most significant examples of secular architecture from the Persian Renaissance.
